Did you boot Win9[5|8] diskette or partition? It might have
changed settings on any Plug-and-Play devices that live on your
motherboard.

Did you or someone else accidently change the BIOS to turn plug and play
on if it has that option?

Simply booting a Win95 diskette is enough to scramble Plug and Play
setting sometimes.
