Writing in to say that I too, just experienced the wrath of the scheduling bug. I was installing something over NFS, and the load was around 1.5, and everything seemed to stop executing... I could switch between terminals, but nothing was active. For example, I could type "$ ps ax", but no output was produced. I watched the load increase to about 4.5 in xload (after about 5 minutes), and decided to reboot. The system apparently works fine, until the load reaches around 1.5... Nothing in the logs... If you need any more information, throw an email my way.
