Hi everyone, I know it has been discussed before, but I still don't get it. Why the hell does the kernel think it can outguess me by automatically adding a route to the network that belongs to an ip address that I configure on an interface. I have two machines, both of them on my normal ethernet. Sometimes I have more network cards in them, so then I do on first machine on the second machine ifconfig eth1 host1 up ifconfig eth1 host2 up route add host2 eth1 route add host1 eth1 which I expect to make host routes to the other machine. (host1 and host2 are NOT the normal IP addresses of these machines). Turns out that I accidently messed up the route to the whole B-class network that the "host1" and "host2" adresses came from.
