I consider the current sysconf() interface infinitely yucky. It was a very painful experience going through the code to fix up the stuff to use the new mm interfaces in early 2.1.x. It's trying to be way too generic for very little gain.
I much prefer a "getpagesize()" system call on architectures that need it, instead of needlessly polluting some configuration space.
