I noticed the same thing too as probably most kernel list subscribers.
As you, I thought that the problem had been solved until I read that
some Linux IDE guys were available for some other projects, but the
guys were not explicitely named in the article.

Here are official MAINTAINER entries related to IDE driver:

Latest linux kernel:
--------------------
IDE DRIVER [GENERAL]
P: Mark Lord
M: mlord@pobox.com
L: linux-kernel@vger.rutgers.edu
S: Odd Fixes

Linux-2.0.35:
-------------
IDE DRIVER [GENERAL]
P: Mark Lord
M: mlord@pobox.com
L: linux-kernel@vger.rutgers.edu
S: Maintained

The 'S:' entry difference is clear and does not need comments.

I don't know. However, I have seen patches for the IDE stuff even recently.
This lets me think that the Linux IDE code is maintained or at least
not unmaintained.

Regards,
Gerard.
