Subject4g partition limit on IDE but not SCSI?
I recently purchased a 6g IDE drive, and attempted to install redhat 5 on
it. I made a 16mb /boot partition (for the kernel, where redhat puts it)
and made the / partition the remaining 6g or so. mke2fs would always blow
up around the 4g mark, so I ended up having to break the partition into
several <4g parts.

This problem doesnt seem to affect SCSI, where I am routinely able to
mke2fs 11gb partitions.

Is this an e2fs limitation, ide limitation, kernel limitation, or what?
