Concerning that patch to detect the clock speed of a processor, I have made the C and assembly source available on the web. It can be found at:

PS: 1) I am on the list as pbrutsch@creighton.edu - please send any replies there. 2) Please be aware the source was originally intended for Microsoft's Visual C++. It will take some work to get it to work with Linux, mostly dealing with the assembler files. I can provide Linux-specific versions if there is enough interest. 3) Please keep in mind that these routines are copyrighted by Intel. They should be used only to see how it's been done.
