Linux-2.0.33 compiled with
egcs-980115 -O2 -fschedule-insns2 -mpentium
works with the 2.1.79 arch/i386/kernel/ioport.c (removed the two SMP
includes). Without changing ioport.c binaries (and some drivers) relying
on ioport access won't work.
You will get a lot of warnings ... 
There's a patch to include/asm-i386/string.h but I didn't try yet.
