SubjectRe: gcc-2.8.0 miscompiles kernel (Was: gcc-2.8 out...)
Date
From

Apropos of this subject:
I compiled linux-2.1.80 with egcs-1.0.1 (with glibc-2).
The kernel worked OK but not X.
[The screen turned into an array of vertical lines.]
I installed the latest XFree86 but that didn't cure the problem.
[It did change the graphical effect.]

As far as I could see there was nothing relevant in xdm-errors.log .

I haven't had this problem with previous versions of the kernel,
compiled with gcc-2.7.3 .

Sorry I can't be more precise,
as the computer (monitor) coincidentally died,
at the exact moment I said "make" to egcs.

I wonder if anyone has experienced the same thing,
or could suggest an appropriate remedy?
