Yesterday I posted some details on which kernels booted fine on my 386SX, and which ones failed. I thought it was either a microchannel problem, or an ESDI problem. But by the postings today by many people who also have 386SX's, it appears to be a FPU-emulation problem. I couldn't compile 2.1.75 and 2.1.76 because of arch/i386/kernel/ptrace.c. I fixed that file (two instances of boot_cpu_data missing), and compiled those. Here's the result: 2.1.74 Works 2.1.75 Works 2.1.76 Works 2.1.77 Kernel panic: failed to find init 2.1.78 Kernel panic: failed to find init --gilbert -- _______________________________________________________________________ Gilbert Ramirez Jr. gram@merece.uthscsa.edu University of Texas http://merece.uthscsa.edu/gram/ Health Science Center at San Antonio University Health System | ||||||||||||
