Is it really necessary to give command line arguments when booting, eg "linux parport=0x378,7 lp=parport0", in order to use a parallel printer with linux-2.1.7? (assuming one has compiled parport in the kernel) as seems to be suggested in parport.txt ?
Can one not make an appropriate entry in an rc file, or else in lilo.conf ?
Also, is there any clever way of telling /etc/printcap to use lp0 with linux-2.0 and lp1 with linux-2.1 ?
