SubjectVIC and Matrox Meteor
Date

Hi Everybody,

I have been trying to run Vic on Pentium IIs (Intel PD440FX motherboard: Linux
2.0.x and now 2.1.55 kernel) with the Matrox Meteor frame grabber. Every time
I try to send large sized pictures the following things happen in sequence.

1. The keyboard and mouse freeze but Vic continues to show video (at least for
a while).

2. When I remotely kill the X server then the keyboard works again but when X
is restarted the keyboard and mouse are frozen again. In fact trying to read
from the mouse always freezes the keyboard, even if not in X.

3. When putting the display on a remote machine ( to avoid using the local
keyboard and mouse) the image comes across but after a while the machine
running Vic freezes (no ping response etc.).

Ultimately, in most cases the machine hangs ( we tried it on 4 different
machines with the same configuration).

Does anyone have ideas about what could be wrong? I am using the meteor.patch
for Vic from Masayuki Yanagiya.
