Just a quick report on the stability of 2.1.54 based on two machines here.
Current uptimes are 5+14:13 and 3+16:01. The first machine has been rebooted about three times since installing 2.1.54, all of the reboots because oops appeared in the syslog (after about a day each time), while the second lasted 4+07:26, then died, then just over a day before dying again (both lock ups).
In general then, 2.1.54 looks to be extremely stable for a development kernel.
The only problem I've noticed is that after a length of time /dev/dsp can't get any DMA memory, which I assume is related to the memory problems/hungriness of the dcache. After a while, this sorts itself out again.
A peculiarity that I've noted is that sometimes, on going onto a filesystem you either haven't touched yet or for a while, ls seems to hang for a couple of seconds. Is this another manifestation of the dcache? -- rob partington / rjp@wamphyri.net
