I have the patch. I didn't have it until this last freeze, in which it didn't seem to have any effect. After that, I tried pressing all of the SysRq functions, no effect, just a few hd clicks, but nothing that would show that the processes completely died. Usually when everything gets killed my hd makes a lot of noise. On the second SysRq-N I think I heard my modem disconnect, but that was the only thing noticeable.
While I'm at this, is there any way to switch away from a dead graphics X screen? Normal VT switching doesn't work even when it gets KILLed, and its kind of hard to read text you can't see. :)
