I am using an IDE-hd for root-partition and an Adaptec 7xxx for a SCSI-Disk. SCSI-support is modularized. I successfully repartitioned, formatted etc. the SCSI-disk and remounted it without problems.
If I use a special 'switch-frame' for HD, it should be possible to umount the disk, rmmod the module, change the disk and insmod/mount the thing again?!
The AIC7XXX perform a reset each time I insmod the module.
