FYI, the serial console patches are at
ftp://ftp.cistron.nl/pub/people/miquels/kernel/

It adds support for multiple consoles (ie output devices for printk)
selectable on the kernel command line. For a serial port you can set
the port, speed and baudrate. The first device specified also becomes
the "real" /dev/console, which is a new device. However the old /dev/tty0
can still be used as console, it's 100% backwards compatible.

Also, it also detects the presence of a VGA/TGA card and if it's not
present it switches to the first serial port to use as a console.

All this stuff is quite generic and probably very useful on non-PC hardware.

I'll re-submit the patch to Linus once the 2.1.4x series get a bit more
stabilized and minor stuff like this can get some attention.

Mike.
