Oh dear, that shouldnt be happening. I've no similar reports for the FDDI card so it could be a hardware dislike. Does the card behave under other OS's

Probably the slackware net-tools are out of date or not built to include FDDI pick up a current set off ftp.uk.linux.org (1.32 you want) and include FDDI. This has no bearing itself on the crash however
