another oops, actually a pair of them that came together. This happens reliably when I try to copy /usr/src/linux/System.map over /boot/System.map. It doesn't seem to work with other files, I am not sure if System.map is open at the time or what.
Anyway, upon doing a "cp System.map /boot" I immediately get the following oops:

At that point I decided to make sure it was really dead, so I walked down to the computer lab, and telneted to a real computer (ie, non windoesn't 95) and did ping and telnet to check. Nothing. I came back upstairs, and presto, I was back at the prompt! Everything seemed to be working, and a repeat of the "cp" command went into the "D" state, but didn't cause an oops.
System info (forgot to include that in the last post, oops) Cx486/100, nothing fancy, kernel 2.1.38 + des on loop device, a bunch of modules (floppy, sound, nfsd..) but only nfsd loaded. No kerneld.
