Hi all, my first post to this list so be nice. :)
If I'm running something memory and CPU intensive (compiling a kernel) on my machine in one console, it seems the other consoles get a serious slowdown. Not just the speed at which the programs run, but the actual console is slow. As if I were on the console remotely over a bad 64k line going through multiple mci.net routers.. (you get the picture). Press enter a few times and it takes a full second or two for it to happen on the console. This just started with 2.1.35 (granted, I never tried .34, couldn't get it to compile). I'm running an Intel P150 with 40M RAM. I would think that since the compile isn't using all my memory, nor is it going into swap at all, (so sayeth 'top') that my other consoles would be more responsive. Thought this would be something for you gurus to take a looksie at. One of these days they'll let me have enough time at work to do some kernel hacking myself. (HA!)
