Same thing around here, except I'm still using ISS-test1 (with the additional patches David Miller posted). However, it was preceeded by an "Connection reset by peer" and it did go away after ~30 seconds. Socket timeout problem?

No other mail connections happened during this time (telling from /var/log/news) and the (outgoing) mail was transferred successfully a little bit later. Sendmail is version 8.8.5.
