Hi there.
I got an interesting kernel panic, while trying to mount a Solaris-mistreated partition (a partition where I _tried_ to install solaris x86, but never went through..).
Mar 21 22:35:55 sicel-home-1-4 kernel: EXT2-fs warning: mounting unchecked fs, running e2fsck is recommendedMar 21 22:35:55 sicel-home-1-4 kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Mar 21 22:35:55 sicel-home-1-4 kernel: 08:11: rw=0, want=516102, limit=515297 Mar 21 22:35:55 sicel-home-1-4 kernel: Kernel panic: EXT2-fs panic (device 08:11): read_block_bitmap: Cannot read block bitmap - block_group = 63, block_bitmap = 516101 Mar 21 22:35:55 sicel-home-1-4 kernel:
This lock the kernel, and its 100% reproducible. Sure, they are some weird bit sequence on this partition, since the installation of solaris seem to have touched it, but this does not explain a kernel panic. I use mount 2.6d-1 (that come with one of the latest debian "unstable" snapshot), was root when doing that, have kernel pre-2.0.30 with msr patch, libc-5.4.23-2, kernel compiled with 2.7.2.1-7, p5-166, 32MB ram blah blah blah.. Last time that I ran memtest, it was fine, so don't come to me saying "He, this must be a bad simm's" :) CPU fan is running at full speed :)
The disk where lye this faulty partition works pretty well, I will keep it this way for further investigation. Someone with a good knowledge of EXT-2 could be helpful..
Regards, Philippe.
