If McAfee said this then they are pretty doggone ignorant. Either that, or they are hoping a lot of Linux users will be.
You cannot have a virus like a PC/Mac virus on a UNIX system. If a program run as root does damage, copies itself, whatever, then it is just a malicious program, not a virus.
