I have tryed to install RedHat 4.0 (kernel 2.0.18) and 4.1 on a PC Pentium:
CPU: AMD K6-PR200 Chipset: Intel VX VGA: Creative 3d Blaster SoundCard: Creative AWE 64 CD Reader: IDE 24x Network card: NE2000 compatible HDDs: QUANTUM FIREBALL 3.2Gb CONNER PERIPHERALS 400Mb
Any attempt to run installation diskettes on the system results in reset or halt the system during kernel configuration. The problem seems resides when it is probing or trying to figure out how are partitioned the harddrive. Note: my PCI isn't recognised and at the beginning (when test of PCI occures) my VGA and my PCI controller are detected as unknown (followed by the vendor and device id).
Any tips? (should I hope in a later release?)
I tryed to start the system with a version of compiled kernel and it crashed (as well as any older release of kernel).
Thanks in advance for any help.
