I didn't make it clear that we also have a whole raft of identically
configured machines with 3c509s that behave perfectly. The hardware spec
is supposed to be identical although we find that the supplier sometimes
implements motherboard changes without warning us.

Our suspicion would currently be for a combination of early Triton based
m/b and 3c509 cards tickling something that changed between 2.0.28 &
2.0.30 (most likely in the 2.0.30 patch).
