When I start netscape 4.03 and click on the screen or on home page immeadiately after it has started, I will usually get the message stating the DNS entry for the url does not exist. If I attempt to reload the page again, the DNS entry is found. ALso, the problem does not occur on later pages nor does it occur if I wait a minute of to before I click on the first url. I.E., it fails only on the first url and only if I access the url immeadiately after netscape starts.
The README that comes with netscape suggests fixing this problem by setting the variable "MOZILLA_NO_ASYNC_DNS=True" but doing so is a kinda dumb way to fix the problem (having the asynchonous DNS lookup is really nice - the best new feature IMO). It seems to be a linux timing realted thing cause I don't have this problem with an AIX box (though that machine is not dialup).
The funny thing is that the machine for which netscape fails is dialup connected (ppp and diald) and supports a client machine via IP masquerading, the client *never* seems to have problems with DNS. The client is 2.1.57, the server is 2.0.31 and is running diald, pppd over isdn. Any ideas are welcome.
