Subject2.1.24: "Free list corrupted" and a hung system
DateThu, 30 Jan 1997 09:13:24 +0100 (MET)
My 2.1.24 system hung during the night - not completely (did respond to
keyboard input), but no new processes could start. The scroll-lock
memory dump looked normal (sorry - didn't write it down), but there
appeared to be a *lot* of crond's running

After a reboot, the log only had the following:

Jan 29 23:50:48 osiris pppd[255]: Connection terminated.
Jan 29 23:50:48 osiris pppd[255]: Exit.
Jan 29 23:51:52 osiris kernel: PPP: ppp line discipline successfully unregistered

Jan 30 01:02:03 osiris kernel: Kernel panic: Free list corrupted
Jan 30 01:13:00 osiris kernel: Kernel panic: Free list corrupted
Jan 30 09:02:15 osiris syslogd 1.3-3: restart.

The time - 1:02 am - is when my daily news expire runs.
