You need gcc version 2.7.2. Take a look in the 2.0 kernel source under ./Documentation/Changes. It lists all the things that need to be upgraded to use 2.0. There's quite a few things that need to be done. There are also several "kernel victim" pages out there that help with upgrading to 2.0. I'm afraid I don't know any of the URL's though.
