Why not just write it in APL?
I think all the kernel code should be kept as simple as possible. People are already complaining about kernel size too.
There is nothing wrong with anybody writing a config script in any tongue they choose, but I don't think it should be distributed with the kernel source. Perhaps with the rest of the Java package?
