But... you *can* hurt the hardware! You can smoke older monitors by feeding them video signals for which they weren't designed. You could trash older disk drives with the wrong (or a repeated) sequence of seek commands. You could break the chains on old chain printers using resonance effects. You can, over time damage your screeh by not using a good screensaver (or powering down the screen between sessions).
