    Subjectlinux-pre-2.0.11 doesn't compile
    [please cc any replies directly to me; i'm no longer on linux-kernel]

    pre-2.0.11 breaks on the final linking stage. seems to be related to
    turning off IP forwarding.

    here's the error:
