I just did a quick & dirty similar type of test. Got an Amiga 3000 (Bogomip 6.7) ethernetted to a 486DX2/66/16meg w/ 1.3.80. I used ncftp on both to pull exactly the same file over a 28k PPP connect alternatively 3 times. The Amiga (AmigaOS) averaged 3394 cps pulling the file thru the linux DX2/66 box while the linux box itself averaged 2345... I've noticed this "for months" though. The server on the other end is also a 1.2.12 linux boxen. An observation FWIW.
