SubjectAny "file" utility for partitions?
DateTue, 26 Mar 1996 11:06:20 +0100 (MET)
Hi!

As I'm playing around a bit with bzImage, initrd and kerneld and friends,
I was wondering if anyone has already written a generic utility that can
deduce the type of a partition, somewhat like the "file" utility.

What I have in mind is something that can either take a device or
a partition as a parameter, and by looking at the "right" places,
i.e. _not_ only checking partition type (82, 83 et al), can tell
with a rather high probability what the partition is really used for.

Is there anything out there already?

Cheers,

Bjorn <bj0rn@blox.se>
