Subjectcan't find /sbin/init
Whenever I try to boot up my second computer with a self-compiled kernel,
it locks up after displaying
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) read-only.
The precompiled Slackware kernels work; I need PPP support (for a
null-modem cable), though, this is why I have to use a self-compiled.

After adding some printk()s to init/main.c, I found out that the execve()
call that should start up /sbin/init returns ENOENT. But I *know* (and I
checked it again and again) that /sbin/init exists. As I said, it is
started correctly when I use a precompiled kernel.
I tried it with kernel 2.0.23 and 2.0.24.

Has anybody got an idea what could be the problem?

TIA,
Christian

I've attached the configuration file.
