A couple of hours ago I wrote the list about sound problems with the sound module and a SB-Pro. It turns out that the problems are caused by the realaudio player version 2.0, not Linux. It works fine as long as I avoid RA. My guess, from previous experience, would be that the problem is in the RA player. They tend to make it very non-portable between versions, instead of, say, just converting the sound to .au and feeding it to /dev/audio, or something like wav that can be sent to /dev/dsp with minimal modification.
